Tension as Anambra Govt Security Operative Gun Down Woman in Nnewi

Tension rose on Tuesday evening in Nnewi as an operative of the Anambra State Security outfit, Operation Udo Ga Achi, reportedly shot dead a women at Ibeto Junction, Nnewi.

The deceased identified as Chiamaka Okeke was said to be on her way home when the bullet allegedly fired by the security operative struck her down.

An eye witness said: “Chiamaka was on her home and got stuck at Ibeto junction traffic. Udogachi security drove down and on meeting the traffic, they were violently controlling everyone, so they can have their way through.

“They carelessly shot an innocent lady at the back and she couldn’t be saved,” the witness who preferred anonymity add.

Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga who confirmed the incident, described it as regrettable.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police Anambra State Police Command CP Ikioye Orutugu has sued for calm, disclosing that investigation had commenced on the case.

“This is following a report in the evening of yesterday, 15th April 2025 of the regrettable incident at Ibeto junction, Nnewi where a trigger-happy security operative shot a lady which resulted to her death.

The lady was later identified as Chiamaka Okeke. Investigations are currently ongoing and further developments would be communicated.”

The Command, he further revealed, was already in contact with the relevant security outfit to identify the suspect and ensure justice is served.

AnambraDaily gathered that the suspect behind the gruesome murder of the lady has been arrested and undergoing interrogation.

According to sources, the suspect identified simply as Chinedu was one of the newly recruited operatives who had not been properly trained on weapon handling.
