Convocation: Ikechebelu Reels Out Achievements as UNIZIK Graduates 8,157

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has announced that no fewer than 8,157 graduates will take part in the institution’s 19th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to hold from Wednesday, March 26, to Friday, March 28, 2025.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing at the Senate Chamber of the university. He stated that the convocation is for graduates of the 2023/2024 academic session.

According to him, the graduates include 6,126 first-degree recipients, 163 postgraduate diploma holders, 706 postgraduate diploma in education recipients, and 680 master’s degree awardees. Additionally, 463 individuals will be conferred with doctorate degrees, while 16 doctoral students will graduate from the UNIZIK Business School.

Prof. Ikechebelu also revealed that three distinguished Nigerians will be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees. They include Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Minister of Health and Social Welfare; Oluwaseyi Tinubu, a serial entrepreneur; and Chief Chika Emenike, CEO of KOTEC Group.

Speaking on the progress made by the institution, the Acting Vice-Chancellor noted that the university has witnessed significant growth, stability, and peace following its recent leadership crisis. He stated that his administration, guided by the ‘BLESSeD Mantra’, has focused on improving the university’s academic, administrative, and infrastructural terrain. He highlighted efforts such as campus beautification, improved electricity supply, enhanced security, and the promotion of digitization.

Prof. Ikechebelu expressed gratitude to the Visitor to the university, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, for their timely intervention during the institution’s leadership crisis. He also appreciated university unions, staff, and students who played key roles in ensuring peace and stability.

As part of the convocation activities, he announced that the university will commission several completed projects, including new office blocks, TETFund hostels, and a state-of-the-art Social Sciences Auditorium. He emphasized that these developments aim to create a more conducive environment for both learning and professional growth.
