FRSC to Begin Clampdown on Commercial Vehicles over Speed Limit, Passenger’s Manifest in Anambra on March 1

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Command has decried low level of compliance of motorists with regards to installation of Speed Limit Devices and passengers’ manifest, especially fleet operators in the state.

It also frowned at sharp practices among certain drivers, including disabling speed limit devices in their vehicles to deceive enforcement operatives.

Speaking with newsmen on Saturday to assess the Command’s performance of 2024 ‘Operation Zero’ programme, Sector Commander, Joyce Alexander announced plans to clamp down on motorists and fleet operators over non-compliance with passengers’ manifest and non-installation of speed limit device.

Alexander who disclosed the enforcement would be effective from March 1, said the move was necessary to minimize, if not eliminate road traffic crashes and save lives of commuters in the state.

She urged drivers to insist all passengers boarding their vehicles filled correctly their details in the manifest, stressing that indicating blood group was necessary to ensure victim’s timely identification and speedy medical attention in event of crashes and other emergencies.

She said, “The FRSC will from March 1 commence total enforcement of non-compliance to passenger’s manifest and speed limit device in the state.

“We will no longer tolerate erring fleet operators and motorists. Those found sabotaging the implementation of the Speed Limit Device and passengers’ manifest will be arrested while their vehicles impounded.

“We have given enough time for the commercial drivers and operators to exhaust their old manifests so they won’t have any excuse when the enforcement commences.

“This enforcement is necessary to avoid road traffic crashes and save lives and property of commuters. We will have special intervention patrol where we will stop and check vehicles.”

The FRSC boss further appreciated state government for the ongoing road construction and rehabilitation, just as she lauded the media for collaborating with the Command, especially in terms public enlightenment and education of road safety rules in the state.
