Two suspected kidnappers were on Saturday arrested alongside five prostitutes in a kidnappers’ hideout at Akwu-Ukwu Oba in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The suspects were apprehended by the newly launched Agunechemba Security Squad on Saturday afternoon during a raid of a brothel in the area, following a tip-off from local residents.
The one-storey building that housed the kidnappers and prostitutes was immediately demolished by the security operatives, in accordance with Anambra State’s Agunechemba Security Laws.
Although the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Prince Kenneth Emeakayi, was unavailable for comment, an operative told reporters in Awka, Anambra State capital that the raid followed credible information from concerned members of the public about the suspicious activities of a group of young men who had been frequenting the brothel for some time.
“We received information that some young men had been visiting the brothel regularly, arriving late in the evening and leaving early in the morning,
“We kept watch on them, and after confirming the information, our team moved in and apprehended them,” he added.
While confirming that some members of the gang were still on the run, the operatives vowed to track them down.
