A Presidential aspirant for the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Dele Atunbi, on November 23, 2024, visited the Anambra State Council of NUJ to seek their support and votes ahead of the union’s triennial conference scheduled to take place from November 26 to 28, 2024, in Owerri, Imo State.

Addressing members of the union, Atunbi, who is the current NUJ Treasurer, presented his manifesto tagged “NUJ Rejuvenation.” He emphasized his commitment to serving members by focusing on leadership, welfare, and integrity restoration within the NUJ.

He outlined his plans to address the welfare of journalists, amend the NBC Act, establish a structured salary scale for media professionals, and advocate for safety and training opportunities both locally and internationally. Atunbi also pledged to enhance the union’s infrastructure and maintain strong relationships with bodies like Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), the Guild of Editors, and Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

In his remarks, the Vice President of NUJ South East Zone C, Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi, endorsed Atunbi’s candidacy, stating that he is the most capable among the three candidates vying for the NUJ National President position. He urged union members to support Atunbi, who he believes will advance the interests of the union.

The candidate was warmly welcomed by the Anambra State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Emeka Odogwu, PhD, alongside council members. The event featured a poster presentation as the highpoint of the visit.
