Chief Magistrate of Ihiala Magistrates Court, His Worship Okoye Kingsley Emeka has donated N80,000 to support the repairs of faulty borehole at the Custodial Centre sitting at Medium Security Custodial Centre Nnewi.
Okoye had, during a recent visit to the facility, learnt of the water crisis caused by the faulty borehole and swiftly offered assistance.
He emphasized the need for collective support from stakeholders in the Justice sector and Criminal Justice System.
He further urged other members of the Judiciary both at the Bench and Bar, to join forces in ensuring Custodial Centres provide secure, humane, and rehabilitative environments for inmates.
Responding, Officer in charge Nnewi Medium Security Custodial Centre Superintendent IK Nwobor on behalf of State Controller Usifo Joseph said the timely intervention of the borehole repair had restored water supply to the facility, improving the living conditions of the inmates.
He appreciated the rare benevolence and selfless service of the Chief Magistrate, appealing to other stakeholders to partner with the Correctional Service in actualization of her core mandate of reformation of inmates for effective reintegration back to the society.
“This selfless act underscores the importance of humane treatment and rehabilitation within the Criminal Justice System.
“This exemplary leadership sets a precedent for community involvement and highlights the significance of collaborative efforts in promoting humane treatment and rehabilitation within Custodial Centres,” he added.
