Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC accredited Election Observers for Anambra State local government elections have expressed concerns over incidents of overpopulated polling units recorded in various electoral wards during last Saturday’s poll in Anambra State.

Coordinator of the group, Prince Chris Azor expressed the worry at one of the polling units in Amikwo Awka during the monitoring exercise with other accredited Observers.

He said while some centers recorded large numbers of voters, others had few voters, blaming the ugly development on refusal of eligible voters to go to their designated units to cast their votes.

According to Azor, some polling units contain over a thousand voters in the register, stressing the need to ensure reduction of high number of voters in a single polling unit and seamless accreditation and voting in future elections.

“We discovered that some polling units contain over a thousand voters in the register. There’s need to ensure reduction of high number of voters in a single polling unit.

“This is necessary for seamless accreditation and voting in future,” he added.

Azor however commended the ANSIEC ad-hoc staff for being punctual which contributed to the early commencement of the exercise without any hitches.

He also described voter turnout at the center as encouraging.
