Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State, Mr. Daniel Onyeishi has stressed the need to set up community-based committees as well as rehabilitation centers to aid in the fight against drug abuse.

Onyeishi stated this when he led a delegation of his Agency on a courtesy visit to Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze.

He expressed worry on the alarming rise in the number of women involved in negative drug practices.

He appealed to the lawmakers to join hands with the Command in fighting drug abuse.

Speaker Udeze decried negative effects of drug abuse on the people, regretting that the practice has rendered many people useless in the society.

He assured State Legislature’s commitment to ensuring a healthy and sanitized environment through collaborative efforts to stop drug abuse in the State.

While commending the NDLEA officials for the crucial work they were doing in reforming the society, Udeze revealed that the State Legislature has continued to pass resolutions against drug abuse, calling for total enforcement of the resolutions by the authorities.

Lawmakers present during the visit advocated the movement of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency from the exclusive list to concurrent list to enable State governments exercise some operational inputs in the agency and also enact laws directly on the NDLEA to address the challenges of the agency.
