Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare has waded into the case of alleged murder of Mrs. Ogechukwu Okafor by her husband, Pastor Elijah Emeka Ibeabuchi.
Ibeabuchi who hails from Nimo in Njikoka local government area of the state allegedly stabbed his wife to death on August 13, 2024 and tried to cover it up.
The matter took a dramatic twist when the case was reported to the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare by the deceased family as allegation of irregularities and threats by the husband boiled over.
According to Mr. Samuel Onuorah, the deceased’uncle from Abatete, the embattled cleric called him and claimed that Ogechukwu fell from four storey building to her death.
Onuorah said they later discovered that their daughter did not fell to her death but was stabbed on the neck and chest by her husband.
He revealed that their doubts were cleared after they went to the mortuary where the said husband had deposited their daughter’s corpse and saw she did not fall from any story building.
The family of the deceased also alleged that Ibeabuchi intended to use their newborn baby for ritual purposes but in the process of dragging the baby with the wife, stabbing her, and also scrapped her palm.
They urged government to come to their rescue and give justice to their deceased daughter.
Responding, Women Affairs commissioner, Ify Obinabo called on stakeholders, women groups, human rights activists, and social media users to support the government in ensuring that Ogechukwu got justice.
She promised to notify the wife of the Governor, Nonye Soludo, expressing confidence of her preparedness to take up the case and ensure justice was served.
