Monitor Your Kids’ Movement to Avoid Being Washed Away by Flood – NUJ tells Parents

Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council has called on residents to always keep their surroundings clean in order to avert the spread of the deadly Cholera outbreak ravaging many states in Nigeria.

The Council’s advice is contained in a communique Issued at the end of the July Congress held on July 4, 2024, at Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center, presided over by the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council, Comrade Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu

The Congress implored all households to stop reckless dumping of refuse in drainage systems to allow free flow of rain water especially during period of heavy downpour.

It called on State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, and other relevant agencies to embark on continuous sensitization of members of the public on dangers of flooding, while urging parents and guardians to monitor the movement of their wards this time to avoid being washed away by flood.

The Congress further cautioned the public to henceforth desist from urinating or defecating around the locations of the Solution Pipeborne Water Scheme strategic discharge points, especially the ones around ABS Corporate Headquarters, Awka and Arroma Junction axis.

“The Congress extended hearty congratulations to Anambra State-born Engr Emeka Ezeh on his recent appointment as the pioneer Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Civil Service Commission by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“While pledging to offer useful support to Engr Eze (a famous philanthropist and partner with the NUJ Anambra State Council), the Congress urged him to continue delivering creditably as he is known for.

“The Congress commended the Anambra State Government for the lofty initiative of dualising the Amawbia-Ekwuluobia-Uga road which would hopefully decongest vehicular traffic upon completion, even as, congress appealed to the state government to ensure that they give thoughtful considerations to those whose property are located along the areas the ongoing road construction extended to.

“The congress urged the contractors in-charge of the various road projects in the Soludo administration to handle them with the expected human face and deliver on the exact specifications.

“Congress vehemently condemned the rate at which buildings collapse are being recorded in the state recently and called on Anambra State government and Nigeria Society of Engineers to investigate the major causes as well as find solutions to avoid future recurrence of the problem.

“Congress announced the award of four eminent Ndị Anambra as Patrons of NUJ, Anambra State Council after a thorough screening exercise.
