We’re fully prepared for LG election in Anambra – NSCDC

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command has pledged to provide a robust security strategy to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the upcoming local government elections in the state, in support of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).

Commandant Maku Olatunde made this pledge at the State Command Headquarters Awka when he received the newly inaugurated Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) members led by the State Chief Electoral Officer and Chairman, Genevieve Osakwe Esq., on a courtesy visit.

He declared that the NSCDC is fully prepared to provide adequate security coverage for the elections, including the deployment of personnel to polling units, collation centers, and other strategic locations.

“Your choice to visit this morning and seek collaboration is very apt. We will give you maximum support to ensure you carry out your task successfully. We will work closely with other security agencies to protect both sensitive and non sensitive materials of your commission and prevent any form of violence or disruption,” he said.

The NSCDC State helmsman reaffirmed the command’s commitment to providing the necessary security support for a secure and conducive environment for the electoral process.

“The importance of security in the electoral process cannot be overemphasized. We are ever ready in line with our core mandate of protecting Critical National State and Local Government Assets and infrastructure collaborate with other sister security agencies to protect both human and material assets of your commission before, during and after the elections” he added.

Earlier, Genevieve Osakwe Esq., said the visit underscores the Commission’s commitment to conducting credible, peaceful and transparent elections.

“Security is a big issue when it comes to election, especially at the grassroots level, that is why we have come to NSCDC as a key stakeholder in this activity to formally seek your partnership in ensuring security in preparation for the forth coming local government elections” she said.

She expressed appreciation in anticipation of NSCDC’s support and assured the Commandant of ANSIEC’s cooperation as the State electoral body prepares to conduct the Local Government Elections in the State in line with the provisions of the Constitution and the Anambra State Electoral Law 2024.

Present during the courtesy visit were Deputy Commandants Steven Ikeorah, Alada Yakubu, Orji Ogbu, and Prominence Ukaobi, as well as Barrister Osita Igbokwe, ANSIEC Commissioner for Legal/Security, and Mrs. Umeh Helen, ANSIEC Commissioner for Logistics & Operations.
