The Founder and Chairperson of Ikenga Abiama Dynasty Foundation, Ambassador Dr. Uba Iwunwa, Queen Ugobeze, has described the sudden death of legendary artist, Onyeka Onwenu as a great loss to Igboland, Nigeria and Africa in general.
Dr. Uba in a statement signed by her Media and Communication Adviser, Olisemeka Obeche, paid her tribute to Onwenu, popularly known as the ‘Elegant Stallion’.
The tribute titled: “Grand Salute of Farewell to a Heroic Role Model Whose Feathers Touched my Life”, Uba, gave a brief personal encounter with the iconic star.
“I grew up looking up to her passion to uphold her father’s legacy as my fighting spirit as an only child. She gave me a reason to believe in everything that I could be. May her soul rest in perfect peace.”
Ugobeze further describe Onyeka Onwenu as a true icon of the Nigerian music and entertainment industry.
“We are definitely going to miss her. She’s a woman of immense talent, grace, and influence. Her powerful voice, captivating stage presence, and poignant lyrics have touched the hearts of millions, making her a beloved figure not just in Nigeria, but across the African continent and beyond.
The statement read further:
“Onyeka Onwenu collapsed and later died on Tuesday, moments after performing some of her songs ending up with her famous song, ‘One Love Keep Us Together’.
“According to witness account, minutes after her performance, she sat down, drank water and suddenly collapsed, and was rushed to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
“Her career spans decades, during which she has not only entertained us with her music but also used her platform to advocate for social causes, promote gender equality, and speak out against injustice.
“Her songs are not just melodies to dance to; they are powerful messages of love, unity, and empowerment.
“Beyond her musical prowess, Onyeka Onwenu is a beacon of strength and resilience. She has paved the way for countless artists, especially women, inspiring them to follow their dreams and make their voices heard.
