Tragedy: Man hospitalized as wife, 4 children die of suspected food poison in Nnewi

A middle-aged woman and her four kids have died at Abubor Nnewichi, Nnewi, in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra state following suspected food poison.

The incident, according to a source occurred on Monday involving the deceased, native of Okwuchukwu Onyimmadu family, Mbosi in Ihiala Local Govrnment Area, but resident in Nnewichi.

The victims who died simultenously after consuming the food were identified as Onyinye, mother; Miracle; Dominion; Amanda and Kosi, children.

“Though the father did not eat the poisinous food, but he is battling to survive at a hospital where he was rushed to due to the trauma he underwent as a result of the incident,” the source added.

Our Correspondent gathered that two other siblings in the family, a boy and a girl, survived the incident because they were in the village and not living with their parents in the industrial town.

Though the exact cause of the death is yet to be ascertained, but some alleged it was a take-away they brought in from outside, while others said the deceased ate cassava food they prepared in their home.

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, when contacted, said the report had not come to his office.
