Food Security : Ex-minister urges FG to partner local communities

Alhaji Adamu Bello, the former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, has called on the Federal Government to partner with local communities to tackle food insecurity in the country.

He made the call at the presentation of his book titled : ” The Exportable Minister” on Saturday in Abuja.Bello was the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2001 to 2007.He also served as the minister of Agriculture and Water Resources in 2007 when the two ministries were merged.He said that the term ” Exportable Minister” was used by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to describe him.

Bello urged the Federal Governement to make concerted efforts to tackle insecurity in the country by collaborating with the local communities.He advised the government to provide security at the farms to enbale farmers have access to their farms and harvest farm produce.Bello lauded the Fedearl Government for the distribution of agricultural inputs to small holders farmers across the country.In her remark, the Chairman of the occasion, Mrs Ebele Okeke, a former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, described Bello as an intelligent man who was dedicated to his job.

Also speaking, Mr Ndukwu Chukwuemeka, President, Book Society of Nigeria, said the presentation of the book was timely.The Book Reviewer, Dr Mustapha Bello,said that the book was about his father’s time as the minister of Agriculture.He said that the book also contained some details about his father’s early life time.(NAN)
