Lifted Hands INC, a medical outreach based in the United States of America has commenced a two-day free medicare for over 4,000 people in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra.
President and Founder, Mr Moses Okaro told reporters at the weekend that 1,500 locals had so far been screened and treated, while 2,500 were expected to be treated subsequently.
He noted that the annual project, initiated in memory of their late mother, Mrs Gladys Okaro had lasted for 15 years.
He said, “We returned home to carry out medical outreach to over 3,000 people in our community. We’re going to take care of every medical concerns of my people.
“This year’s outreach will include eye check and surgeries, medical check up, diabetes test, malaria test, high blood pressure test and mental health check, all free of charge.
“We are going to be feeding over 2,000 people. We have commenced giving out wears, shoes, eye glasses, slippers, books and pencil, biro and detergent.
“Primary and secondary school students are the once to benefit from the free books and other writing materials.
“About 15 medical personnel from U. S were on ground to assist the local medical practitioners in achieving this feat.
“10 persons have been screened for eye surgery with the hope that the number may increase before the exercise ends.”
One of the founder’s children, Ekenem Okaro, a nurse in US revealed that 40 eye surgeries that spilled over from last year would be operated upon during the current edition.
“We have to key into to the programme to sustain it, though this time we’ve expanded it beyond our community, even across the country.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Elisha Mbamalu who received a free eye test and glasses appreciated the benefactor, praying to God to bless him in all ramifications.
