The Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) says it’s partnering with the Enugu State Government on the use of forensic analysis to fight crime and solve paternity issues. GOUNI Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Christian Anieke, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Monday.
Anieke, however, said the forensic projects would begin at the next academic session through the university’s Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) Centre.
According to him, the fight against crime and the detection of criminals will be easier with the technology of forensic analysis.
“If one has touched anything, his or her fingerprints will be there to be used to identify him or her in the case of a crime,” he said.
He added that with the partnership, paternity tests would now be conducted in Enugu, thereby, resolving issues of child ownership between contending parents.
The VC expressed confidence in the university’s innovations to attract grants to push research in many areas of academics.
“We now have a computer village in the university where innovations will take place.
“We want to train young people in such a way that they can compete with their peers globally,” he said.
Anieke said the university would be discarding chalkboards for smartboards in line with Gov. Peter Mbah’s digitalisation dream. (NAN)
