Police Parades 18 Suspects for Alleged Cultism, kidnapping, Armed Robbery in Awka

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam today, Friday 12th July, 2024 at Police headquarters Amawbia paraded 18 male suspects arrested for various criminal offenses including cultism, armed robbery and kidnapping.

While parading the suspects, CP Itam disclosed that what the command is doing is trying to get the media aware of their activities in fighting crime and criminality in Anambra State.

He disclosed that in the last 60 days 200 hundred suspects were arrested for various crimes, 5 suspects were convicted, rescued 4 kidnap victims, recovered over 33 different brands of ammunitions ( AK rifles, pump action guns, locally made pistols,etc).

Also recovered include over 640 ammunitions, 27 vehicles and various brands of motorcycles.

“We recovered different brands of arms such as 8 Jeff automatic pump action rifles 28 normal pump action rifles and a total of 1,644 ammunition as well as 27 Vehicles of different brands as well as motorcycles”

Continuing Itam recalled that the Command has been involved in several training and retraining of men in the low stream security operations as well as use of fire arms and target practicing training.

He also announced that the Command is putting in place an Emergency Response Unit aimed at getting to the scene of crime within ten minutes of a distress call in any part of Anambra state.

Among the suspects are three young men in their early thirties who specialize in car snatching and armed robbery and according to the Commissioner, they sell those cars through their father who they gave one car as gift. The father who got gift was also paraded.

Itam however announced that the Command will not take kindly to the activities of Juju Priests and those involved in some traditional practices that are breach to the laws of the state and the Constitution of Nigeria.

“When you talk about cultism you will discover that there all manner of traditional or cultural practices that are breach to the laws of the land and the Constitution of the country and the activities of Juju Priests and their likes would be looked into “

He also advised journalist to always crosscheck information with the Public Relations Unit of the Command so as not misinform the public. He made reference to three videos making rounds in the social media involving policemen. He disclosed that those videos are not true in as much he will not spare any erring police personnel.
