The Women in Agriculture Network Niger-Delta (WIAN-ND), Edo chapter, has urged women farmers to embrace rebranding initiatives to modernise their agricultural practices. Mrs Deborah Iserhienrhien, President, WIAN-ND, Edo, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Benin.

Iserhienrhien said that the crucial role women played in agriculture could not be overstated.

According to her, there is need for innovative approaches to enhance women’s productivity and competitiveness.

She said that rebranding could help women farmers attract better market opportunities, secure higher prices for their produce and gain recognition for their contributions to the agricultural sector.

“Women farmers are the backbone of our rural economy; by embracing rebranding, they can showcase the quality and uniqueness of their products; thereby reaching new markets and increasing their profitability.’’

Iserhienrhien tasked women farmers on networking and emphasised the need to see farming as a business, not just a means of subsistence.

She said that the WIAN-ND was a brain child of the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprise project of the Federal Government, geared towards boosting rural economy and women empowerment.

“The initiative aims to empower women farmers not only economically but also socially, by enhancing their visibility and influence in the agricultural industry,’’ she said.

The president added that the association was ready to support women farmers via training, resources and networking opportunities to ensure the sustainability and success of women’s participation in Agribusiness. (NAN)
