A 65-year old woman has been arrested for allegedly inflicting injury on her 19-year old househelp in Ezinifite, Aguata local government area of Anambra state.
The suspect, identified as Mrs Martha Umenweke, was arrested following a report by a whistle blower who witnessed the ugly incident.
On her part, the victim, Chidiebere Otenyi from Nkanu, Enugu state said she was accused by her madam of stealing her ₦25,000.
Chidiebere, who was still in pain at the time of the rescue, however denied the accusation.
“I’ve lived with my madam for a year and four months, but I have been severely punished at the slightest provocation, including being starved.
“I’m 19 years, but still in primary 3 because she demoted me when I came,” she said.
It was gathered that one Mr David, an alibi to the suspect tied up the victim’s hands and legs after receiving the beating.
Reacting, Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, vowed to deal with the perpetrator.
Obinabo who was furious over the dastardly act and extent of injury metted on the victim, assured her of justice.
“The culprit won’t go scot-free since she had the mind to inflict injuries and pain on another person,” she added.
She said the case has been handed over to the police for further interrogation and prosecution at the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka.
