Palpable tension has escalated in parts of Anambra State capital, Awka as gunmen shot an official of the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) on Thursday morning.
The incident took place barely 12 hours after an unidentified person was gunned down in front of a petrol station at Aroma junction.
A witness said the victim was attacked in front of a motor park, where commuters ferry passengers from Awka to Nnewi.
“I think the man who was killed is an ARTMA official. He stopped some people who were driving a Toyota Sienna vehicle with tinted glasses, and the people shot him and drove off.
“It happened just close to me as I was boarding a vehicle this morning to go to Nnewi,” the source said.
The incident, AnambraDaily gathered, had heightened security fears in the state capital following recent upsurge in cult – related killings.
A source who drove pass the scene moments after the incident morning, described it as scary situation.
“Every body is in a state of fright now. You can imagine moving around and seeing people gun down early in the morning and people running around for their lives”, he said.
The Anambra State Police command public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga was yet to react to the killing as at the time of filling this report.
