Female Pedestrian Crushed by Towed Faulty Vehicle at Onitsha

A female pedestrian has been crushed to death by a faulty moving vehicle along Asaba-Onitsha road in Anambra State.

The incident which occurred around 12.30pm involved a white colour commercial tow-truck vehicle with Registration number XA550BMA, model ML180 and another vehicle.

An eyewitness said the deceased was crossing the road when the vehicle, being towed by a towing van, got ditached from the tow truck and hit the woman, killing her on the spot.

Confirming the crash, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi sympathized with the deceased family.

He warned motorists, especially those driving towing trucks to exercise high level of professionalism while discharging towing operation and use standard equipment.

He further stressed that normal speed limit be observed by all categories of vehicles using the expressway.

He said, “At about 12:20hrs of the day, a white colour Commercial Tow Truck vehicle with Registration number XA550BMA, model ML180, was towing a vehicle in an uncontrollable speed along the axis.

“A female adult was said to be crossing the road when the vehicle that was being towed got ditached from the tow truck and killed the woman, while the truck continued movement.

“The FRSC rescue team which arrived the scene shortly, took the woman to Toronto mortuary.”
