The Lawmaker representing Onitsha South 1 in the State House of Assembly, Hon.Fred Ezenwa and the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Onitsha South Local Government Area, Hon.Emeka Orji have been conferred with chieftaincy titles at St Dominic Catholic Church Fegge Onitsha.
The conferment which was done on 14 April was part of the activities lined up for the celebration of the Mothering Sunday in the Catholic church globally and as a result of their countless efforts for the development of Fegge community
Conferring the honour on the duo on behalf of the church, Igwe Linus Onu, ( Egbu 1, Ezu Na Umudi Ohaegbu Umudi,) Umunneochi Local Government Area, Abia State, conferred the council chairman as Dikediebube,’ and LP lawmaker as ‘Ugochimereze,.’
In his post conferment speech, Chief Ndubuisi Okereke, one of the Onitsha South APGA stakeholders, listed the achievements of the chairman in the area to include, opening of blocked drainages, free flow of traffick, sack of touts, among others stating that Governor Charles Soludo, has done the roads for easy flow of traffic, beautifying of different strategic areas in fegge, among others.
Hon.Orji in his speech stated the governor’s achievements, said that they are numerous that “If I start to name them it will take the entire day. The honour done to me by the church will spur me to do more and I advise our mothers to live up to the expectations of the people,” he charged them.
On his part, the LP lawmaker expressed satisfaction with the honour done to him, adding that he will not relent in his efforts to better the welfare of the constituents.
“I am happy for the Parish Priest, the mothers, and the laity for finding me worthy to be honoured. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to represent Fegge in the House of Assembly.
“I have been trying my my best for the betterment of the society. My endorsement by God brought goodness to the development of Fegge in all aspects and it will continue,” he assured.
Earlier, the Parish President, Catholic Women Organisation, CWO, Mrs. Calista Onyeka, flanked by her vice, Mrs Ononuju Ebele, expressed satisfaction with the Mothering Sunday adding that they performed so many activities that included, march past, sack race, dances, sing songs, drama, among others.
She advised mothers to always portray the image of motherhood as the person incharge of domestic affairs and avoid acts capable of dragging them to ridicule.
Also, Prince Agwuna Maduakonam Akachukwu, described the duo that were honoured by the church as performers who always carry the interest of the people at heart.
He assured the people in Onitsha South council Area that their condition will not remain the same adding that the lawmaker and council chairman are birds of the same feathers in terms of infrastructural development of the area and urged them not to relent.
Also, the chairman of the organizing committee, Hon. Francis Nwoye, described the two that were honoured as action and capable leaders who always carry the interest of the people at heart.
‘”The council chairman has done marvelously in the area, through him we are going to have hospital, governor is doing that, roads are built, blocked drainages opened,” he said.
He said that Ezenwa and council chairman works together and by their position are fathers irrespective of political party affiliation adding that days were gone when people talked of parties.
On the mothering Sunday he said mothers should be honoured as guardians to the family and the key to the house.
In their various contributions, the chairman, Fegge landlords Association Stakeholders, Chief Okwudili Obinwanne, and comrade Dunu Chiadikobi, mayor, Onitsha South Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU Youths commended the church for the honour done to the two government functionaries..
Chief Obinwanne however condemned the activities of tipper drivers who he accused of using illegal lights on their vehicles and urged the council chairman to bring them to book.
Chiadikobi expressed satisfaction with the honour done to the duo and urged them not to relent in their effort to better the living condition of the people.
Earlier in his homily, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Nwagbara, who precided the function, commended the mothers for their role in the family and society adding that he enjoyed his priesthood because his mother is still alive.
He advised fathers not to expect to be worshipped like the mothers are worshipped adding that men are always busy unlike the mothers who have time to take good care of their children.
