No fewer than fifteen persons have been killed in cult related activities in Awka, Anambra State since Easter Sunday, barely two weeks ago.

About six persons were murdered on Easter Sunday, while three people were killed a week after.

There have been other pockets of killings in the city within the week, including the murder of one Nwanayoeze, said to be popular among indigenes of the city.

He was riddled with bullets close to his house in Awka on Wednesday.

On Thursday, a former President General of Amansea community in Awka North Local Government Area, Chief Cajetan Nwokike was killed.

Another person, identified as Christian was on Friday killed at UNIZIK Junction.

The deceased, said to be an indigene of Enugu State was reportedly shot by assailants who stormed the area in a tricycle.

“The man is a manager of Anambra Executive Transport Company. He was shot three times, and when the gunmen were sure he was dead, they entered their Keke and drove away very slowly, showing that they were not afraid of anything,” a source said.

When contacted, police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, he said he was not aware of the Friday killing.

“Many family members of the deceased prefer burying their slain relatives to reporting to the police for investigation,” he said.
