Labour Protest: NSCDC Declares Zero Tolerance for Violence, Lawlessness in Anambra

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command has cautioned members of the public against inciting violence and taking laws into their hands ahead of Tuesday and Wednesday’s planned nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

State Commandant, Maku Olatunde stated this while briefing officers and men drawn from Counter Terrorism Unit, Female squad, Anti-Vandalism Squad, Operations Department, Investigation and intelligence Department, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Protection Department, and Armed squad mobilized for the assignment at the State command Headquarters, Awka.

He said the Command in collaboration with other security agencies would not tolerate any form of lawlessness, noting that
proactive measures have been put in place to ensure maximum safety and security of all residents.

He advised his officers to uphold high professional standard, desist from any act capable of tarnishing the image of the Corps, adhere strictly with the Standard Operating Procedure and obey the Rules of Engagement.

Maku said, “Following planned nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) slated for Tuesday 27th and Wednesday, 28th of February, 2024, the NSCDC has put in place proactive measures to ensure maximum safety and security of all Anambra residents.

“Consequently, I have ordered the deployment of NSCDC operational and intelligence resources across all strategic locations within the state to protect lives and secure Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.

“The Command is not unmindful of antics of hoodlums and disgruntled elements who may want to hijack the protest, hence the command in synergy with other security agencies is working to checkmate the threats.

“Meanwhile, all Area Commanders, Divisional Officers and Heads of Formations have been directed to deploy massively for the protection and security of Critical National, State and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure within their areas of jurisdiction.

“Members of the public should to go about their lawful business without fear as measures have been put in place to ensure that the protest is peaceful.

“The public are also encouraged to report any deviant occurrence in their area to the nearest NSCDC Formation or sister security agencies nearest to them.”
