A 45 year-old man, Kunle Ipaye, on Wednesday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for alleged burglary and stealing of generator worth N70,000.
The defendant, whose occupation and address were not given, is facing a two-count charge bordering on burglary and stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant, on Nov. 10, 2023 at Oja Ale area in Okitipupa, Okitipupa magisterial district, committed the offences.
Orogbemi said the defendant burgled the house of one Roseline Ogungbemi and stole one Elepaq generator valued N70, 000, property of Ogungbemi.
The prosecutor added that the defendant committed offences punishable under Sections 412 and 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Cletus Ojuola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.
He added that the surety, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two years’ tax payment made to the state government.
He adjourned the case until Feb. 27 for further hearing. (NAN)
