Oba Community Elects New Exco, Prepares To Elect Monarch

The People of Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, have elected a 14-man executive led by Chief Anthony U. Ejiofor, as their President General, PG, to pilot the affairs of the community for the next three years.

Chief Ejiofor scored 370 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Ogechukwu Obasanya, who scored 179 votes in the keenly contested election.

Also elected were Nwabueze Emebo-secretary and Dennis Maduabum, Chief provost, while the other 11 candidates were elected unopposed by the electorate at the community civic centre.

The Electoral committee chairman, Chief , Ndubuisi L. Maduekwe, described the election as free, fair and credible even as he urged the new executives to abide by their oath of office.

In his post election speech, the elected PG, Ejiofor said that, “I am very happy and grateful to God for making today a success. I am grateful to the great people of Oba, they have done noble, as you can see people are jubilating, when you give people what they want, the will of the people will be done.

“I commend everyone and it ended in praise and I urge everyone of you to joined hands to make Oba a place to live in. I have one agenda now people have spoken, we are going to unite and become stronger, we are going to restore the dignity of Oba, this time around, it is unfortunate that for two weeks now or there about, we expressed industrial blackout, by the grace of God it will not happen again under my regime.

“Our security architecture, I owe one important project I am going to execute, fire brigade station. Within the environ, we have nothing like that, In Oba, we have a lot of hotels, a lot of filling stations, lot of personal and residential buildings, but no fire fighting machine incase of any fire outbreak , to save the lives and properties of my people,” he vowed.

In a swift reaction, the out gone caretaker PG, Chief Osita Ifediri Ubadi, expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the election adding that it was along awaited election.

” I am so happy for what transpired here in this election, this is the first of its kind in the history of Oba, I congratulate Engr Ezeofor. I said let the right thing be done for the good of Oba people, as he emerged as the winner, I congratulate him. If he wants my support because I am the outgoing president, if he needs my support, I will give him my assistance.

“I advise them as I said in my address earlier that whatever that will bring everlasting peace in Oba, they should do it, I must say categorically that Oba is in tussle for Eze okpoko 11, (Igweship tuzzle), if it is possible I demand conduct of the Igwe election before Easter. Oba is a very good place to live in, the new executives should stick to the constitution and conduct the election of Eze Okpoko the second as we are doing here today.

” People’s impression during the conduct of the PG election was that people would be killed and i said no that nobody will die, as long as it is what the constitution said. Let the election be conducted as it is in the constitution, and whosoever that resorted to violence will not deny us the election.

” I advise they should conduct same in igwe’s election, nobody should be disqualified for any reason, the voice of the people is the voice of God, and let Oba people come out enmass that day and elect their monarch,” he pleaded.

A member of the Interim administration and community leader, Nze Dozie Nweke, expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the election adding that same will happen as they prepare for Igweship election.
