An Anglican University, University on the Niger, (UNINIGER), Umunya, Anambra State has cried out over nefarious activities of scammers who the authorities said, “are now busy offering fake admission letters” to unsuspecting prospective students of the institution.

According to the authorities, several unwary students, their parents and guardians have since fallen victims to the scammers.

The university said that it had for about the third time explained that admission into the institution was the sole responsibility of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and not the job of the university.

The authorities therefore warned that people should desist from patronising individuals or agencies other than JAMB, adding that anyone who dealt with any individuals or agencies in respect of admission process did so at their own risk.

Recall that in a release earlier, signed by the Registrar of the university, Lady Odisa C. Okeke, the institution had roundly condemned the said admission racketeering and consequently warned the public to be circumspect in dealings with its admission processes.

Part of the release read, “Please be informed that the University on the Niger, has not started admission process for the 2023/2024 academic session. Note that admission process must go through the JAMB.

“All official communications regarding admissions, including notifications, application processes and requirements, are solely disseminated through our official channels, which includes our university website, official social media platforms and designated admission offices”, the release explained.

The university reiterated its position on the admission process, emphasising that it had not employed any agent or intermediaries for the purpose of admission, stating that any claims made by individuals or organisations suggesting otherwise were entirely false.

However, the university has confirmed that “admission into the twenty programmes offered by the university is currently in progress”.

The release therefore urged all potential applicants to exercise due diligence and rely solely on information provided through its authorized channels.

“Once again, we emphasize that any fraudulent admission claims not originating from our official channels are unauthorised and should be disregarded”, the release added, directing that any inquiries about the university and its admission processes should be made via its official website,” the release read in part.

“Alternatively the authorities said the institution could also be visited at its takeoff campus, at Ozalla Hill Onitsha.
