An Area Court in Jos, on Thursday sentenced a 21-year-old labourer, Adamu Usman, to a correctional centre for stealing 26 pieces of iron rods.
The judge, Anas Mohammed sentenced Usman after he pleaded guilty.
Mohammed, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N15,000, saying the sentence would serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. lbrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on Sept. 4, at the Laranto Police Station, Jos by one Chima Uwafor.
The prosecutor alleged that the convict went to the complainant’s house and stole the 26 pieces of rods valued at N15,000 before he was caught.
Gokwat said that the offence contravened the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code. (NAN)
