Tension as Kidnappers Fail to Free Anambra Market Leader After Collecting N5m Ransom

Palpable tension has gripped family and friends of abducted chairman of Mgbuka Amazon market, Onitsha, Anambra State, Chief Francis Enibe following the inability of his abductors to free him after allegedly collecting N5million ransom.

Enibe was abducted in the early hours of September 25, 2023 by yet-to-be identified gunmen.

President General, Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), Chief Humphrey Anuna in a chat with newsmen in Onitsha, said the abductors promised to release him last Wednesday or Thursday but that they were yet to fulfil their pledge.

“We as traders, friends and family rallied round and raised the N5million but we are yet to see him. They said Wednesday or Thursday that they will release him but he has not been released,” he stated.

Also speaking, President General of Awba Ofemili community, Anthony Nwakeze, commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for curtailing increased crime rate in the State, expressing optimism of a crime free state that in no distant time.

“We are happy the governor is meeting with all stakeholders and Presidents-General, AVS and the youth volunteers are also out to fight crimes and criminality in the State. Insecurity is a national thing, it is not only in Anambra State,” he stated.

Reacting, Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Adeoye, assured Command’s commitment towards soon release of the market leader.

“I am aware of the abduction of the Amazon market chairman and we are working on how to release him. We are not relenting,” he stated.
