Applicant Lands in Court for Robbing POS Agent N155,000

An applicant, Ali Mohammed was on Friday arraigned at a Karu Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing N155, 000 from a Point of Sale (POS) agent.

The police charged Mohammed who lives in IDP camp Abuja with joint act and theft.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Ade Adeyanju told the court that the complainant, Aya Ovey who lives in Durumi, Abuja reported the incident to the police.

Adeyanju said that the defendant with one other now at large, entered the complainant’s shop on the pretext of cash withdrawals and robbed him of N155, 000.

He said that the defendant and his accomplice threatened to deal with him if he reported the matter.

The police said that the defendant, during investigation, confessed to the crime.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Malam Umar Mayana, granted the defendant bail and also ordered him to sign a bond to deposit N155,000 with two sureties.

He said that the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction and their addresses would be verified by court officers.

The judge adjourned the case until Oct. 10 for further hearing. (NAN)
