The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale-Martins, on Sunday advised people on friendly environment disposition to forestall natural disasters capable of destroying humanity.Adewale-Martins, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at his 40 years ordination and 25 years Episcopal consecration anniversary, held at the Holy Cross Cathedral Lagos.

The cleric, while reacting to the havoc caused by flood in Morroco and Libya, said, “people should do away with practises that could disrupt the ecosystem”.

Adewale-Martins, who expressed astonishment on the damage nature could avenge on the society when trying to reverse its disrupted ecology, said human activities had contributed to climate change that threatened humanity.

According to him, practises such as unscientific drillings for natural resources, bush burning, reckless disposal of plastic waste, blockage of drainage and deforestation should be avoided.

“Firms that are in the habit of gas flaring should as a matter of moral obligation refrain from such unwholesome practice for humanity.

“If we must get it right, concerted efforts at individual, corporate and state levels should be geared toward revamping the ecosystem with environment friendly depositions and policies,” he said.

NAN reports that, the Archbishop’s anniversary afforded faithful, the clerics and others opportunity to celebrate his good stewardship.

The Arcbishop Emeritus, Anthony Olubumi Cardinal Okojie and His Grace Peter Ebere Cardinal Opkalaeke, Bishop of Ekwulobia Anambra were papal Emmisories to the event.

Cardinal Opkalaeke had on Saturday presented Popes awards to Adewale Martins and others clerics for their good stewardship.

Earlier in September, Moroco and Libya two North African countries, suffered devastating flood havoc that left many homes destroyed with many dead.

In Lagos, hours of downpour resulted in floods that left commuters stranded in parts of the state and submerged houses. (NAN)
