Why NYSC S’east Skill Acquisition Centre should be sited in Anambra – Coordinator

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State has appeal to both the State and Local Government authorities to intervene in locating the proposed Southeast Area Skill Acquisition Centre in Umuawulu in Awka South Local Government Area of the State.
State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Iruma made the appeal weekend during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 Orientation Programme at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation camp Umuawulu-Mbaukwu.
She said the skill acquisition center would provide corps members with opportunity to acquire valuable skills that would enable them become self-employed and contribute to the development of the State.
She said, “As the State Coordinator, it is my duty to ensure that all corps members are provided with a conducive environment for their orientation and subsequent primary assignments.
“I want to assure you all that my team and I are fully committed to supporting and guiding you throughout your service year.
“We are here to address your concerns, provide mentorship and facilitate your integration into the communities you will be serving.
“It is important to recognize that the success of your service year is not solely dependent on what you receive but also on what you give.
“The communities you will be serving are in need of your knowledge skills and passion. I encourage you to actively engage with your host communities, understand their needs and work towards sustainable solutions.
“Your efforts will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact and contribute to the overall development of Anambra State and Nigeria as a whole.”
Declaring the orientation course open, Governor Chukwuma Soludo restated his administration commitment towards welfare of corps members in the state.
Soludo, represented by Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba explained that the ceremony marked beginning of a new phase in their lives, a phase of service, dedication, sacrifice, and nation-building,
He said, “I want to assure you of our unwavering support and commitment to the success of the NYSC programme.
“We recognize the immense contributions that corps members make to our state’s development and we are committed to ensuring your safety, welfare and conducive environments for your primary assignments.
“I urge you to remember the core values of the NYSC including but not limited to discipline, selflessness, patriotism and hard work.
“These values will guide you on the path towards making a positive impact in your host communities, Anambra State and in Nigeria.”
A total of 1,050 corps members were sworn in at the ceremony which featured parade and other displays.
