The police on Wednesday arraigned a 60-year-old house developer, Lukman Adewole, for allegedly obtaining N16.62 million from accommodation seekers fraudulently.

Adewole, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court. He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the defendant, on June 15, conspired with some others at large to fraudulently obtain money by false pretence.

Odugbo said that the total sum of N16.62 million was obtained from Yekeen Olakunle, Asuquo Alex and others with the pretence to give them an accommodation, which Adewole never did.

The offences contravened sections 411 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. F. Onamusi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties, who must be gainfully employed and provide evidence of three years’ tax payment.
She adjourned the case until Sept. 6 for mention. (NAN)
