Court remands mechanic for allegedly stealing phone

A Grade 1 Area Court in Kado, Abuja, on Monday, ordered the remand of 20-year old auto mechanic, Kayode Ayo, for allegedly stealing a mobile phone valued at N10,000.Ayo, a resident of Jabi Forest, Abuja, is standing trial for theft. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Judge Muhammed Wakili ordered that Ayo be remanded in correctional centre in Keffi until Aug. 31 for hearing.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Stanley Nwafoaku, told the court that the complainant, Safiyanu Adamu, had reported the matter at Utako Divisional Headquarters on July 8.
Nwafoaku said that the complainant alleged that on the same day, the defendant dishonestly and smartly took his tag number, went to his shop and stole his Techno mobile phone valued at N10,000.

The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime and the phone was recovered from him. He said that the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code Law. (NAN)
