Principal of Riverside Secondary School, Umerum, Ayamelum local Government Area, Anambra state, Mrs. Benedette Ifediego has explained reasons why National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members refused posting to the school.

She said corps members were scared of curse placed by a former corps member on the community over his stolen handset and money.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Ifediego said, “A male corper posted to the school and whose handset and money were stolen at a business center near the school, lodged his complaints to NYSC Awka office informing it that it was not safe and secure any longer to post corpers to Umerum community.

“It was like the corps member had placed a curse on the school, stating that the problem of the college is beyond what the parents and teachers association could solve, hence my appeal to community leaders.”

The principal further hinted that the corps member whose money and handset got stolen had, allegedly informed the NYSC secretariat that any corper sent for any assignment to the school, his or her live and property would never be protected by the community.

“Efforts are on to ensure the return of WAEC centre to the school, as well as how to fix the sorry state of affairs at Riverside college, among others,” she added.

She also alleged reluctance by leadership of Umerum town Union (UTU) to buy and replace the corper’s stolen handset as well as the #100,000 the suspected thief removed from the corper’s bank account details.

Daily Vendor gathered that the corps member vowed never to let go, the curse, until his handset and money were returned to him.
