Achebe has Given Meaning, Dignity to Traditional Institution – Soludo

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has described traditional ruler of Onitsha and Chairman of South East Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe as first class monarch who has redefined traditional institution in Nigeria, particularly Anambra State.

He said the royal father, popularly called
Agbogidi has given meaning, honour and dignity to the traditional institution in the Southeastern part of the country.

In a congratulatory message signed by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime to mark Achebe’s 82 years birthday, Soludo added that Achebe has redefined the traditional institution in Nigeria, particularly Anambra State.

He added that the monarch has also contributed to the peace and tranquility being enjoyed in various communities across the state.

He said, “Agbogidi is a distinguished royalty and gentleman who has given meaning, honour and dignity to the traditional institution in the South Eastern part of the Country.

“Obi Achebe has diligently served Nigeria in many fronts, and capacities, making invaluable contributions for the good of the society.

“Through his pivotal role as the leader of the traditional institution in Anambra, he has contributed, in no small measure to the peace and tranquility we enjoy in our communities.

“May I use this singular opportunity to extend my congratulations on behalf of the government and good people of Anambra State, on this auspicious occasion of his birthday celebration”.

Obi Achebe is chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University since 2015, and was earlier chancellor of Kogi State University. He also serves as the chairman of the board of Directors of Unilever Nigeria, and the Chairman of International Breweries (ABInBev) Nigeria.

Before his emergence as the Obi of Onitsha, in 2002, he had a long and distinguished career in the Royal Dutch Shell Group serving as Director in various companies in the group.
