Wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo has identified apparent neglect by most parents to question sudden source of wealth of their children as one of the fundamental problems threatening today’s society.

The governor’s wife who stated this on Thursday in Awka, expressed worry over parents’ abandonment of primary ethos of truth, honesty and principle in child raising, including moral inculcation and valued traditional etiquettes.

“Such costly parental neglect has resulted in many negativities that are bedeviling today’s society, with crimes and misdemeanors slowly becoming institutionalized to the detriment of hard work and genuine means of survival.

“Where parents deliberately refuse to question the source of their child’s sudden wealth, especially when it appears questionable, they have indirectly approved mediocrity, and fueled moral depreciation,” she added.

While appealing to parents and guardians to wake up to their responsibilities, Soludo’s wife stressed that the society they desired for the next generation might be a mirage if the current social errors were not urgently corrected.

She added, “It is time for all parents, guardians, social engineers and every other stakeholder to come together and reassess their roles in child and societal developments, with a view to tackling the issue of morality.

“The agelong values of hard work must be widely preached and appreciated among families, while parents and caregivers must also appreciate the success pace of their children or wards.”

She however canvassed reappraisal of most family ethos, especially those of child upbringing, with a closer look at the kind of moral platforms parents build for their children.
