Suspected Kidnappers Shot Ebonyi Assembly Official, Snatch Car in Anambra

A Commissioner in Ebonyi State House of Assembly Commission, Leonard Alogu has been reportedly shot dead in Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra state.

The deceased reportedly shot by suspected kidnappers was traveling from Abakaliki to Onitsha to attend a child dedication in Onitsha when the incident occurred.

Anambra Daily gathered that the deceased allegedly stopped at Umunya, along the Enugu/Onitsha Expressway to ease himself when he was accosted by the suspected kidnappers.

“While struggling to escape from the kidnappers, the suspects allegedly shot him in the stomach and made away with his vehicle, phone and those of other occupants accompanying him to Onitsha,” the source said.

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, when contacted, said such information was yet to reach the command, but Chairman of Abakaliki Lawyers Association, Barr. Victor Alo confirmed the incident.

He told newsmen on phone that the deceased was confirmed dead at a hospital where he was rushed to.

“The deceased body has been deposited at a nearby mortuary at Awkuzu, while the case has been reported at Oyi Divisional Police Headquarters, at Nteje,” he said.

He urged State police command to fish out perpetrators of the dastardly act as soon as possible.
