A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State has sentenced a 21-year-old man to seven months in prison for raping his 14-year-old sister.
He was further handed down a non-custodial sentence of community service that will last not less than three hours each day. Delivering judgment, the presiding judge, Dr Nnamdi Dimgba said the sentence will start from the day of arrest. Recall that the convict, who hails from Adazi-Enu in Anaocha local government area of Anambra state was apprehended by the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) with the help of the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare and Violence Against Persons, Prohibition Implementation on May 13, 2022.
AnambraDaily gathered that Mr Eziuzo fled his home town shortly after the incident in 2021 and was evasive until he was caught last May. He was said to have been allegedly involved in notorious activities around their neighbourhood which included attempting to rape a young girl at Neni, but was arrested by the vigilante group and subsequently released because of his father’s pleas, beating women including mothers, drug abuse and stealing among others.
Sources say whenever he was apprehended, his parents would bail him but after raping his sister and fleeing home, his family members declared him wanted and teamed up with the agency to track, apprehend and brought him to justice.
The State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, in her official reaction to the incident in May, cautioned parents against aiding and abetting crimes.
She frowned at the evil meted on the innocent girl and assured that justice would take its full course. She commended the NAPTIP for their efforts and support in apprehending the perpetrators.
