Man, 25 Detained for Stabbing Commercial Bus Driver to Death in Anambra

A 25-year old man, Akpa Lebechukwu in Okija has been arrested for stabbing a commercial bus driver to death along Onitsha-Owerri expressway of Anambra State.

The deceased, a native of Enugu State was said to be on transit from Lagos to Imo state when he was attacked.

Anambra Daily learnt that the deceased had parked to drop one of his passengers when the suspect jumped into the vehicle and stabbed him with a matchete. 

Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, saying the suspect has been arrested.

He said, “Following an improved operational positioning of Police and other security operatives to respond to distress calls in the state yielded result, as today 18/9/2022 at about 12:05pm, arrested one Akpa Lebechukwu ‘M’ 25yrs from Enugu State, recovers one matchete. 

“The suspect attacked a driver of a commercial vehicle on transit from Lagos to Imo state at Okija junction, along Onitsha/Owerri Expressway. 

“The victim parked to drop a passenger before Lebechukwu jumped into the vehicle and matcheted the driver. 

“The driver was rushed to the hospital before he was declared dead by a medical doctor on duty. 

“The Commissioner of Police Echeng Echeng while assuring Ndi Anambra that the Command will never allow some disgruntled elements to make life unbearable for the residents, orders immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigations Department for a comprehensive investigation.”
