Ndị Omor is known for its rich involvement in farming activities. This community is one of the best producers of yam in Ayamelum as a council area and the entire state with the help of being the largest gifted land mass as far as Anambra state is concerned, not just the land mass but with flat topography and rich soil.”
The ZLP candidate who attended the event on the invitation of the monarch received tumultuous applause when he seized the opportunity and reeled out some of the programmes he intends to pursue for e people of the Oyi/Ayamelum federal constituency when he gets to the National Assembly if elected.
He said: “I am an orthopaedic surgeon by profession. As a surgeon, we see a lot from our end. We don’t only see and treat ailments suffered by our people.
There are people whose problems are beyond known ailments but ‘sickness of depression is mainly caused by misrepresentation. My mission to the National Assembly is not to treat sicknesses, but to devise a way for us to prevent sicknesses because prevention is better than cure.
“As a democrat, I have gone through a lot of political processes while growing up, including being a clerk, speaker and president of medicine-related associations, and I have decided that I want us to do politics differently.
“What we want to do is human capital development. It’s been a long we started seeing people who build roads, but we have come here to seek your support, so we can build people this time. We want to tackle hunger.”
In his reaction, Igwe Oranu expressed his joy that human capital development was on his agenda in vying to represent the federal constituency at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly in 2023 but urge him to focus on convincing electorates in the constituency to vote for him.
The monarch said: “I am a just monarch. You can rate how I have responded to other people, I like to stand by the truth. I’m impressed with your programmes, especially human capital development. For me, I know what is good for our people, and you have said it.
“I understand your programmes, and I like them. I will only urge you to go out and convince other people about what you can do. Human capital development is the best that anyone can give to our people, and you must go out and convince the people. I’m a very objective person and I will always tell you the truth.
“You are a young man and you have a lot of prospects. You must not apply violence, or go physical in seeking votes. Just go hunt for people to stand with you.”
The former Chairman of Ayamelum Traditional Rulers Council, however, assured the ZLP candidate of his and subjects’ prayers and wished him well on his quest to reposition the federal constituency.
The New Yam Festival was made colourful by different dance troupes, ranging from women of the community, paying homage to the monarch, among other features.
