Big relief for farmers and residents of riverine communities in Anambra East and West local government areas of Anambra State as the state government clears water hyacinths that blocked the Omambala River.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne who confirmed the completion of the exercise after inspection, commended Governor (Prof.) Chukwuma Soludo for his quick intervention on the water hyacinth crisis that usually make navigation of Omambala and Ezichi rivers impassable, especially during the seasonal flood.
Nwabunwanne further disclosed that Governor Soludo was ready to transform the state for better.
According to him, the governor demonstrated his commitment to tackling challenges faced by Anambra people by coming to the aid of crying people of Anambra East and West Local Government Areas, who could not transport their farms produce to markets because of the water hyacinth which blocked Omambala river.
The commissioner maintained that with the clearance of the water hyacinth, people of the area will now move their farm produce with ease through the water ways.
“Governor Soludo is poised to reposition Anambra in both human, infrastructural and socio-economic development”, he stressed.
A former Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Mr Pius Ifeadi also commended Governor Soludo for giving his people a sense of belonging. He recalled that before the state government’s intervention, moving farm produce from Nsugb to Otuocha market was hell through the water ways.
Chief Boniface Ilegbunam, a community leader from Umuoba Anam who led the team that removed the water hyacinths also thanked Governor Soludo for giving his people a listening ear and assured that they will always support his administration.
