Anambra Commissioner Pledges to Revive National Light Newspaper, Improve Media Relation

The Anambra State Commissioner for information, Paul Nwosu on Wednesday said Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led’s administration has no intention of neglecting the media in the state.

He described the governor as media friendly, saying he appreciated the benefits derivable from such relationship. 

Speaking during a visit of State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) delegation, led by its chairman, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Nwosu however said the governor was constrained by time and limited resources.

He appealed to media practitioners in the state to be patient with the current administration, assuring them of better days ahead.

He said, “This government and this ministry has no intention of neglecting the NUJ or the media in particular. Soludo is a fan of the media and I can tell you that authoritatively. 

“The fact that he has not been opportuned to interact with you doesn’t mean he doesn’t like the media, or prefers to use the social media. 

“I was among those handling the media during his time as CBN Governor. The governor understands the benefits derivable from being a friend of the media. 

“He understands that media is the instrument to bring the desired change. It’s the key to the kind of government he wants to run. 

“The only thing is that he’s constrained by time and immediate resources. I just appeal for patience and continue to play your part by being serious with our work. We’ll soon smile.”

The commissioner further disclosed his plans to reorganize the State owned newspaper, National Light newspapers, expressing optimism that the paper would bounce back to its past glory.

“I’m a print media major, I didn’t have much to do with electronic media and this is the reason I’m passionate about National Light and I’ve pleaded with the governor to give me a chance to reorganize National light to stand on its feet. 

“I don’t believe that government has no business in running newspaper. I can give you a number of newspapers in UK and other cities abroad where government has sufficient interest in newspaper houses and they’re doing well, social media onslaught notwithstanding.

“Those who argue that government can’t run newspapers don’t know how to rejig and reengineer businesses like that.”
