TRAGEDY: Suspected Vandal Electrocuted in Anambra, Accomplices Flee

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Sunday as a suspected vandal dies while vandalising a 500KVA power distribution substation, at Umuezerimpi, Umuatuegwu Okija, Anambra State. 

The deceased reportedly stormed the area together with his accomplices to steal the facilities belonging to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC).
AnambraDaily gathered that members of his gang took to their heels immediately he was electrocuted, leaving behind his lifeless body and their tools at the scene of the incident. 

Confirming the incident, Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, said a formal report has been lodged at the Okija Police Division, for detailed investigation.  

He added that tools used by the deceased and his fleeing colleagues were also recovered, while his corpse has been deposited at the Okija General Hospital mortuary. 

He said, “This incident is coming just few days after EEDC issued a report on four suspected vandals who were apprehended in its network for attacking its electrical installations. 

“Just imagine how this young man has cut his life short over nothing. It is hoped that this will serve as a deterrent to others engaging in this dastardly act” 

While calling on the public to be vigilant and on the lookout for these vandals, Ezeh regretted that growing cases of vandalisms on its installations, which had adversely inconvenienced its customers. 

“Let’s all join hands and ensure these very few people in our society that are bent on making life miserable for all of us are stopped”, Ezeh appealed.
