Maiden Anambra Junior Athletics Championship For U-15, U-17 Set for Kick-Off June 30

The inaugural edition of the Anambra State Junior Athletics Championships, has been slated to hold between Thursday, June 30 and Friday, July 1, 2022 at the Awka City Stadium.

AnambraDaily gathered that the Under 15 and 17 sporting event initiated by the Anambra State Sports Development Commission will feature male and female participants drawn from the 21 local government areas of the state.

The Chairman of the Commission, Chief Tony Oli, had in an earlier interview with Completesports, disclosed that the championship will be huge all-round.

“This Championship will be huge in every ramification. Anambra State has its focus on talent discovery and this will provide fertile window in that regard,” Chief Oli enthused.

“Just like we have done in football via academicals which entered the 3rd edition, we want to make this an annual program that will give us Athletes bank for all Athletics events.

“It will also help us discover young talents at the right age, build a data base of potential champions and select athletes that will be representing the Anambra State at the National youth games that normally takes place in September”.

Oli stressed that the commission considered the school calendar and long vacation in fixing the competition schedule. He further said that the state would start thinking of camping for the Youth Games in August.
