Joint Security Operatives Record Victory in Gun Battle with Unknown Gunmen in Anambra

The Nigerian Army says its joint security operation carried out on Saturday against Unknown Gunmen in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State was a huge success.

The social media has been awash with reports of heavy shooting in Ukpor on Saturday morning, after joint security forces ambushed the killer criminals in the area which has in recent times, become notorious due to activities of the so-called Unknown Gunmen.

Recall that the local government secretariat in the community has been severally attacked, while the criminals also set up a camp in a forest in the community, where they use as operational base.

AnambraDaily gathered that on Saturday morning, the Nigerian troops and other security operatives launched a crackdown on the criminals.
According to informed report, the joint security forces stormed the criminals’ hide out and engaged them in a heavy gun fire duel that left the community under siege deserted.

‘Apart from the fact that most people in the community are aware of the security issues due to activities of the criminal elements operating there, they were warned to steer clear to avoid being hit by stray bullets”, a source said.

As the battle raged, major roads in the area were blocked while residents remained indoors.

It was gathered that the heavy shooting, which were accompanied with detonation sounds, are mostly heard around St. John’s Church Ukpor, Amadim village and few other parts of the community.

THE RAZOR NEWS reported that a police officer in Anambra State who spoke under anonymity said the military registered a huge success against the gunmen.

He said: “Soldiers registered success against them (criminals) today. They have been totally dislodged from their camp in Ukpor, and I have it on good authorities, that many of them were taken out. I will not tell you much, because I believe that after today, the Nigerian Army spokesperson will brief the press anoint the operation. But I can tell you that Anambra is winning the war against insecurity.”
