The former All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has officially emerged as the candidate for the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, scheduled for November 8, 2025 governorship election.
His nomination followed a decisive victory in the partyโs primary election held on Thursday, where he won unopposed, securing 366 โyesโ votes against eight dissenting votes in a process lauded for its transparency and adherence to the partyโs constitution.
Chukwuma’s transition to the YPP comes after he withdrew from the APC’s primary election, citing irregularities in the process. His subsequent alignment with the YPP signals a commitment to a fresh political direction, grounded in integrity and progress. The primary election was managed using the Option A4 voting system, with the results officially announced by the YPPโs National Secretary and Chairman of the Election Committee, Barrister Vidieno Bamayi, who emphasized the electionโs fairness.
Bamayi remarked, โEven with only one aspirant, we ensured the process adhered strictly to the party’s guidelines,โ highlighting the commitment to a democratic process. Following his victory, the National Chairman of YPP, Bishop Amakiri, lauded Chukwuma’s potential to enhance the party’s impact within Anambra and across Nigeria.
In his acceptance speech, Chukwuma expressed profound gratitude to the party members, stating, โThe YPP is a party founded on discipline, and I am confident we will attract more members.โ He reiterated his intention to reconnect Anambra with the national government, promising to focus on improving infrastructure, security, and the overall business environment if elected. โOur target is the Government House in Awka. With your support and the grace of God, we will achieve this,โ Chukwuma declared.
Outlining his agenda, he emphasized the need to dismantle adverse policies that hinder economic growth and ensure Anambra’s interests are represented at the federal level. โI am committed to ending insecurity, fostering ease of doing business, and creating job opportunities for our people,โ he affirmed, setting the stage for a campaign aimed at revitalizing Anambra State.
โMy emergence as candidate of YPP is a new dawn. The party is taken a new shape. Our dream is to deepen the altruistic and selfless efforts of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. With me, YPP will triumph on this election. Our agenda is to connect Anambra to the centre. We are parts of the federation.
โWe must connect to the centre. Anambra State as A State must remain number one in infrastructure, education, security of lives and property, among others. We will end insecurity, encourage ease of doing of business, end heavy taxations and other bad policies for businesses to thrive and create more jobs,โ he added.
