A total of 1,298 Corps members on Thursday received their certificates of national Service for the 2024 Batch A Stream II Corps members across various zonal offices in the state, including Awka, Aguata, Onitsha and Nnewi.

The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma who disclosed this during a low-key passing out ceremony, said 575 of the passing-out corps members were male, while 723 were female.

She added that disciplinary actions were also recorded, with 7 Corps members (5 males and 2 females) placed on an extension of service, and 28 others declared absconded.

“Regrettably, two Corps members from the batch were reported deceased during the service year.

Speaking at Amawbia, the headquarters of Awka South LGA, the NYSC boss charged the Corps members to be exemplary ambassadors of the NYSC scheme.

She emphasized the importance of leveraging the skills acquired during the service year through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.

“The skills you gained during this service year should equip you to create opportunities for yourselves, rather than relying on non-existent white-collar jobs. Let your ingenuity lead the way,” she urged.

Despite the challenges faced, Mrs. Iruma reaffirmed the scheme’s commitment to fostering development and unity among Nigerian youths.

She encouraged the departing Corps members to uphold the values of hard work and positivity as they transitioned to the next phase of their lives.

The passing out ceremony, though modestly held, reflects NYSC’s dedication to equipping Nigerian youths with the tools to make meaningful contributions to society, reinforcing the scheme’s enduring legacy in nation-building.
