A human rights activist, Comrade Jude Achebe has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State to beef up security at boundary communities to Checkmate incessant attacks, loss of lives and properties.

Gunmen on Wednesday, allegedly killed four people, a food vendor, first year student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Uli, and two others.

Reacting to the purported killing of those victims when unknown gunmen suspected to have come from a neighbouring Imo state, started shooting students inside the University indiscriminately, Achebe lamented that those killed were innocent citizens.

Achebe who is also National Chairman, Human Dignity Restoration Association, (HDRA) said, “I urge Governor Soludo to beef up security at those boundary communities in the state because those living their are at their own risk, if there is no security the criminals will continue to attack.

“A food vendor, first year student and two others who met their untimely death in the hands of these unknown gunmen wouldn’t have been killed if the security at Uli, that is a boundary town to Imo state, was beefed up.

“They were killed last Wednesday that was not Monday sit-at-home, on every Monday sit-at-home the area is always deserted over fear of unknown gunmen attack on innocent citizens. Soludo should come to the rescue of the University community to protect the lives of the students most of who do not hail from there.

Scene of the bloody attack

“If the boundaries are not guarded the whole security exercise will be useless as most of the criminals come from outside the state and after operation they leave as they came. Uli is a stone throw to Imo state and the students of the University now live in perpetual fear of uncertainty sequel to constant attacks on their campus,” he lamented.

“The natives of Uli are not left out as they are also affected in the attacks. Governor Soludo as a one time student knows that the students will not concentrate on their studies in the face of this attack.

“I was told that nobody challenges these men of underworld when they operate because they have more sophisticated weapons, military or assault rifles not pump action guns.

“No parent will like to lose his child in his school of study, I therefore plead to Governor Soludo to immediately rise to the occasion by beefing up security at Uli and other boundary communities in the state,” the activist pleaded.
