Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye has explained reasons why he joined politics.

He said his interest in joining politics was to advance the cause of the masses, especially the downtrodden.

Okoye, who represents Awka Constituent 2 at the Assembly, stated this while interacting with Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu led State Working Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council at his country-home, Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area (LGA).

He recalled that his empowerment programmes for the children, youth, women and less privileged started since 2014 with objectives to build a society of industrious people, whose businesses could be boosted, rights upheld, and environment secured to thrive.

This according to him, was why he spends over millions of naira yearly paying school fees of students, providing houses to the aged and disadvantaged, as well as empowering constituents and others with free vehicles, soft loans, among others.

” I give out of passion. I am in politics to serve, not to amass wealth. Joining politics has offered me opportunities to reach out to more vulnerable persons in the society. My interest is to make people happy, encourage and empower people to succeed in their chosen careers.

“I have provided shelters and security to schools, the aged, children and others. I don’t make them public because I see them as service to God and humanity . I believe that politics offers opportunity for people to serve,” he added.

Earlier, State Chairman, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu commended the lawmaker for providing dividends of democracy to constituents, assuring that the union under his leadership would support him in advancing his charity and political agenda for the betterment of all.
